What does Merchant mean?

A merchant is a professional who actually works among others with merchant banks in order to produce profit. In today’s society there are basically two types of merchants: the wholesale merchant and the retailer. The wholesaler acts as a mediator between the actual producer and the retailer (wholesaler basically sells the goods taken from the producer, to the retailer) and has a wider area of operating, while a simple shopkeeper is a retailer.
