Also known as integrated circuit card, the smart card serves actually several purposes: identification, information storage or even has a monetary value stored thus facilitating transactions. Its application can be found in areas such as simple identification, health care, financial and even computer security.

A very recent growing phenomenon in the world pertaining to the use of smart cards as an identification tool, are the e-ID cards, which are implemented as authentication identity cards which’s system is more complicated than simple id’s. As for the use of smart cards in the medical system, these serve as a compact authentication tool of medical records and other important information from a medical point of view, and the use of these cards will definitely reduce cases of identity theft.
